Indore (Madhya Pradesh): Narayan Sai, son of self-proclaimed godman and rape convict Asaram Bapu, was brought here from Surat under heavy police security on Friday for a hearing in a family court.
The hearing pertained to a divorce case filed by his wife, Janki Harpalani. While both Narayan Sai and Janki were present in court, only Janki’s statement could be recorded.
Narayan and Janki got married in 1995. A native of Bhopal, Janki had filed for divorce nearly three years ago. Despite being summoned by the court in an earlier hearing, Narayan had failed to appear, prompting his lawyer to submit a written response on his behalf.
The court had scheduled August 1 for the hearing, for which he was brought from Surat Jail, where he is currently lodged in a rape case.

During the proceedings, Narayan was accompanied by his lawyers Pawan Sharma and Tulsiram Raghuvanshi. However, the court was only able to record Janki’s statement.
Statements of Narayan and others remain pending. The court has now fixed the next hearing on September 4.
In a related matter, Janki had earlier appealed for maintenance and in 2018, the court ordered Narayan Sai to pay ₹ 50,000 per month. However, since he has been incarcerated since 2013, he allegedly did not pay the amount, which has now accumulated with interest to over ₹55 lakh.
Narayan’s lawyer recently filed a plea to reopen the maintenance case in May 2025, arguing that the 2018 order was passed without considering that Narayan was already in jail since 2013. The court has since issued notices to the relevant parties in this regard.
