Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Supreme Court on Friday vacated the stay order issued by the Madhya Pradesh High Court, paving way for resumption of admission and recognition processes in paramedical courses for academic years 2023–24 and 2024–25.
A bench comprising Chief Justice B R Gavai and Justice K Vinod Chandran passed the order. The court also issued notices to the state government and other respondents based on a plea by the Madhya Pradesh Paramedical Council.
High Court had stayed the process on July 16 after taking note of a petition filed by law students' association. The court questioned how 166 institutions could start courses for 2023–24 when they had been granted recognition only in 2025, pointing out that the institutions didn’t exist at the time the academic session was supposed to begin.
Senior advocate Tanda Turai, representing registrar of Madhya Pradesh Paramedical Council, said the SC order is crucial for students' future. He argued that petitioners had no locus standi and the High Court had passed a drastic order without proper basis.
“Registrar of the council is responsible for granting recognition and regulating admissions. The high court’s stay had brought the entire process to a standstill,” Turai told Free Press.
