Shocking CCTV footage of a collision between a high-speed train and a van has surfaced on social media. The incident reportedly occurred in the Polish village of Wola Filipowska.
The CCTV footage of the horrific incident shows a white van getting trapped on the track as the barriers come down before the driver could get past the tracks.
According to reports, the driver of the van got stuck on the tracks after trying to jump a red light, leading to a horrific collision.
The video shows barriers coming down when the van was in the middle of the track. First, only one barrier comes down, giving the driver a fleeting opportunity to get past it. However, as he tries to remove the vehicle from the side, the second barrier comes down, trapping the van on the tracks.
As the speeding train approached, the driver frantically moved the vehicle to the side of the track to avoid being hit.
But his efforts were in vain as the van was still on the track and the speeding train rammed into the vehicle.
The collision was so strong that the vehicle was destroyed. However, luckily, no one sustained injuries in the brutal smash as the driver of the van and the train passengers escaped unhurt.
According to Polish media outlet Fakt, prosecutors are currently investigating the incident to establish what exactly caused the collision. A surveillance video that has spread widely across social platforms has generated divided responses from online viewers, with many holding the driver responsible and suggesting the crash was preventable.
An X user criticised the driver, saying: "This is a PERFECT example of how stupid and shitty 95% of drivers are. Stop on the tracks and risk death instead of breaking that crossing arm. You just can't make this up."
Pointing out a flaw in the design of the crossing with gates, another user wrote: "Okay, I understand that everyone is a genius. BUT the repetition of THE SAME accidents suggests that there is some flaw in the design of the crossing with gates. It would be good to announce a competition for some improvement in the safety of these crossings. People are dying because of this."
"The barriers on the inner side should be painted green and/or bear information about the possibility of being rammed in a dangerous situation. An educational campaign is not enough when it comes to an 80-tonne locomotive colliding with a 2-tonne vehicle, and solutions need to be implemented systemically," commented another user.
