Donald Trump To Meet Vladimir Putin Soon, Confirms Top Kremlin Aide; Discussion Likely On Ukraine War

US President Donald Trump is likely to meet his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin in the coming days, said a top Kremlin aide.

Washington DC: US President Donald Trump is likely to meet his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin in the coming days. The development was confirmed by top Kremlin aide Yury Ushakov on Thursday.

On Wednesday, Trump also hinted that he could meet Putin. The US President had said that there was a “good chance” that the two leaders could meet “very soon”, reported CNN. Both Trump and Putin are expected to held discussion on the war in Ukraine.

As per Ushakov, Putin's foreign affairs adviser, a venue for the meeting has been agreed. The announcement in this regard will be made later, reported The Associated Press.

Ushakov did not reveal the exact date and venue of the meeting.

Notably, it will be the first meeting since Trump returned to office this year in January. The meeting could be a major milestone in in the more than 3-year-old Russia-Ukraine war.

On Wednesday, Trump's trusted foreign envoy, Steve Witkoff, also met Putin in Moscow. According to CNN, Witkoff landed in Moscow on Wednesday morning and was greeted at the airport by Russia's investment envoy Kirill Dmitriev.

Later, a video released by Kremlin showed Witkoff shaking hands with Putin. For the unversed, it was Witkoff's fifth visit to Moscow this year. The meeting was held days ahead of the deadline imposed on Moscow by Trump. This deadline is is due to expire on Friday.

The US President threatened Russia to agree to a ceasefire or face secondary sanctions. He also warned of imposing 100 per cent tariffs on countries buying Russian oil.

Trump had already imposed 50 per cent tariffs on imports from India for buying oil from Russia.
