Thane: An interstate criminal involved in over 30 cases, including murder, extortion, and housebreaking, has been arrested in the Thane district of Maharashtra, police confirmed on Thursday. The accused, Mohammad Ibrahim Mohammad Sayeed (39), had criminal cases registered against him.
The accused is involved in multiple cases across several states, including Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Delhi, and Maharashtra, as reported by the news agency PTI. According to Assistant Commissioner of Police (Crime) Madan Ballal, the accused was arrested on July 7 from Uttan in Bhayander (East), following a tip-off. His arrest was linked to a housebreaking and car theft case reported in Valsad, Gujarat.

An FIR was filed by Valsad police under sections 331(4) (house trespass or housebreaking) and 305(a) (theft from a house, vehicle, or place of worship) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
During the interrogation, police discovered that the accused is a "habitual offender with a criminal history spanning several states, including Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Delhi, as well as in Mumbai, Pune and Thane districts of Maharashtra," the official said, according to a report.

The accused has now been handed over to the Valsad police for further investigation. He has more than 30 criminal cases registered against him, involving charges like murder, attempted murder, house-breaking, extortion, and possession of illegal firearms,” the official added. He also mentioned that non-bailable warrants had been issued against the accused in some of these cases.
In a separate news story of crime from Thane city, a man followed a woman into her residential building and forcibly snatched her purse before fleeing the scene. This theft occurred on Tuesday, and the Kalwa police arrested the accused within 24 hours.
CCTV footage shared by Thane Police on social media shows the woman walking up the stairs while the accused follows her, suddenly grabbing her purse and escaping. The police's prompt action led to the quick arrest of the suspect, bringing relief to the local community.
