In a startling incident, a retired Mumbai Police woman was robbed of her gold chain worth Rs. 2 lakh and mobile phone after an unidentified intruder broke into her Chembur residence. The incident occurred in the early hours of July 8, and the police have registered a case under Section 305 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Act.

According to the FIR filed at Tilak Nagar Police Station, the victim, 74-year-old Jamuna Vitthal Gaikwad, resides with her two sons and their families at Malekarwadi, P. L. Lokhande Marg in Chembur. Gaikwad was asleep in her ground-floor bedroom on the night of July 7.

At around 2:30 a.m., she was awakened by the sound of the main door and spotted an unknown man—about 5 feet tall, wearing a blue shirt, black trousers, and carrying a backpack—fleeing from the house. Moments later, she realized that her 20-gram gold chain, had been stolen from her neck, and her Samsung mobile phone was also missing.

It was later learned that her elder son had stepped out around 2:15 a.m. to meet a friend and had left the door unlatched, unintentionally allowing the thief access to the house. CCTV footage from the premises later confirmed that the intruder had entered the house through a partially open main door and exited within minutes.

The thief is suspected to have used a sharp tool to cut the chain from Gaikwad’s neck while she was asleep. The Tilak Nagar Police have registered a case and are scanning CCTV footage to identify the suspect. A manhunt is underway.
