Mumbai: In a distressing incident, a man from Goregaon ended his life by hanging himself, unable to cope with the drug addiction of his son. The tragedy took place in the Goregaon area, where the father, troubled by his son’s substance abuse, died by suicide.

Following this, the son began harassing his grandmother for money and property. When the harassment became unbearable, the grandmother complained to the Goregaon police station. A case has been registered against the grandson, as reported by Loksatta News.

According to the report, Sanjay Rajput (55), a resident of Goregaon, lived with his 76-year-old mother Smita Rajput, his wife, and two sons, Aditya (27) and Gaurav (25). Both sons were reportedly addicted to drugs, with Aditya, the elder one, being completely dependent.

He was unemployed and frequently fought at home. Sanjay Rajput, deeply affected by his son’s addiction, slipped into depression and eventually died by suicide at his residence in Goregaon on May 29, 2025.

Despite his father’s death, Aditya showed no signs of change. Instead, his behaviour worsened. He began harassing his grandmother, Smita Rajput, for money. Aditya allegedly forced her to withdraw Rs 5 lakh from her bank account by threatening her.

Eventually, she left her home to live with her daughter. However, Aditya followed her there and continued his abusive behaviour. After experiencing mental distress caused by her grandson, the grandmother filed a complaint at the Goregaon police station, as reported.

The case was registered at the Goregaon police station, and Aditya was charged under Section 24 of the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, as well as Sections 351 and 352 of the Indian Penal Code.
