After a stunning performance that helped Mumbai Indians seal the final IPL 2025 playoff spot, Suryakumar Yadav capped off the night with a simple yet touching gesture. As light rain began to fall over the Wankhede Stadium on Wednesday night, Suryakumar arrived for his post-match interview with broadcaster Harsha Bhogle, carrying an umbrella in hand. Instead of using it for himself, the Mumbai batter offered to share the umbrella with Bhogle, shielding both of them from the drizzle.
Speaking about the match winning knock during post match presentation, Suryakumar Yadav said, “Was important for a single batter to bat till the end. We knew there was one over of 15–20 runs somewhere, so we had to wait till the end. The way Naman came in and shared that energy with me was also a turning point.”
It was a well-earned Player of the Match award for Suryakumar, who had gone 13 matches in this IPL season without picking up the honor. On this occasion, he delivered when his team needed it the most—scoring an unbeaten 73 off 44 balls to take Mumbai Indians from a shaky 132/5 after 18 overs to a competitive 180/5.
In the final two overs, Suryakumar and Naman Dhir exploded with a 57-run partnership, collecting 48 runs and shifting the momentum completely in MI’s favor.
