Mumbai Indians co-owner Nita Ambani was all smiles on Wednesday night, as the team secured their place in the IPL 2025 playoffs with a dominant 59-run win over Delhi Capitals at the Wankhede Stadium. The victory pushed MI to 16 points enough to claim the final playoff spot.

As the match ended, TV cameras captured Nita Ambani holding up six fingers, a clear sign that the five-time champions are now chasing a record sixth IPL title. Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings are currently tied with five championships each, and a win this year would set MI apart as the most successful team in IPL history.

Nita was joined by her son Aakash Ambani in celebrating the big win. She also took part in the victory lap with the players after MI’s last home game of the season. Rohit Sharma led the lap of honour and thrilled fans by hitting autographed tennis balls into the stands a gesture that’s become a fan favourite at Wankhede.

Mumbai's performance on the field was solid. On a tough batting surface, they were struggling at 132/5 after 18 overs. But Suryakumar Yadav and Naman Dhir turned things around in the final two overs, smashing 48 runs to take the total to 180/5. Their late hitting made all the difference.

With the ball, MI kept the pressure on from the start. Trent Boult and Deepak Chahar picked up early wickets, and then Mitchell Santner and Jasprit Bumrah cleaned up the rest. Santner stood out with brilliant figures of 3 for 11, making it nearly impossible for Delhi to chase. The Capitals were bowled out for just 121 in 18.2 overs.

Mumbai Indians now look ahead to their final league match against Punjab Kings in Jaipur on Monday, 26 May. While they’ve sealed a playoff spot, they still have a chance to break into the top two depending on other match results giving them a better path through the knockout stage.
