Tempers flared after the Europa League final in Bilbao when Manchester United defender Harry Maguire and Tottenham’s Cristian Romero had to be separated following a heated exchange on the pitch. The incident happened after the had ended as Unite players looked dejected

Romero's handshake was rejected by Maguire, but as he walked by to hug United’s Diogo Dalot, Maguire approached him, visibly angry and gesturing toward an earlier incident. Things quickly escalated, and both players had to be pulled apart by teammates and staff before the argument turned physical. Tottenham’s Sergio Reguilon and others stepped in to calm the situation.

Maguire and Romero had been clashing throughout the second half, especially during corners and set pieces. Both players were seen pushing and grappling as the match became more intense. In the dying minutes, with United chasing an equaliser, Maguire was even pushed forward into an attacking role. During one aerial duel, he collided with Romero and was penalised for a foul, receiving a yellow card. Romero stayed on the ground, helping Spurs waste valuable time a move that clearly annoyed Maguire.

The win also sealed Spurs’ return to the UEFA Champions League next season. Son captained the side to glory as Brennan Johnson's first-half goal proved enough to beat fellow Premier League strugglers Manchester United at San Mames. The victory was a major milestone for both the club and manager Ange Postecoglou, who had faced heavy criticism for his defensive tactics during the season.

Despite a difficult domestic campaign that saw both teams finish near the bottom of the Premier League table in 16th and 17th place Tottenham’s European triumph brings a silver lining and a major boost for next season.
