Mumbai: Union Ports Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has directed that all departments of the central and state governments work in coordination to expedite the completion of port department projects in Maharashtra. Fisheries and Ports Minister Nitesh Rane stated that the joint meeting of central and state departments for coastal development is a positive step.
A joint meeting regarding port development and key projects in the state was chaired by Union Minister Sonowal and attended by Minister Rane, along with officials from both central and state government departments. Both ministers addressed the gathering during the meeting.
Union Minister Sonowal said there are ample opportunities in the maritime trade and industrial sectors. He emphasized that port-related projects in Maharashtra are important and must be granted the necessary approvals promptly. He also stressed that projects connecting ports via rail and road should be fast-tracked. The projects approved under the Sagarmala initiative in Maharashtra should be completed by 2026.
Minister Rane stated that both central and state departments must work in close coordination to ensure timely approvals. Efforts should also be made to simplify the approval process, which will enable timely project completion and reduce costs. He expressed hope that the day’s positive meeting would accelerate progress on port department works across the state.
During the meeting, discussions were held on the Vaibhavwadi–Kolhapur railway project, Anandwadi port, Ro-Ro services, water taxis, inland waterways, and jetty-related issues.
