Thane: In a tragic road accident late Sunday night, a 21-year-old woman, Palak Solanki, lost her life after a speeding container truck rammed into the two-wheeler she was riding pillion on in Thane’s Mumbra area. The incident occurred near Reti Bunder Junction around 11.30 pm.

Details Of The Accident

According to the Thane police, Palak was returning home with her friend Pawan Mhaisala, 24, after dropping another friend, Zoya, at her Amrit Nagar residence in Mumbra. The trio had gone out for dinner earlier that evening to celebrate Friendship Day.

Mhaisala, who was riding the Suzuki Access 125 scooter, later lodged a police complaint detailing the events leading up to the fatal crash. He stated that as they were riding past Retibandar No. 4, a container truck speeding towards Nashik suddenly hit their scooter from behind. The impact caused both riders to fall onto the road, following which the rear wheel of the container ran over Palak’s head. She died on the spot.

According to a report by the Indian Express, Mhaisala sustained injuries in the accident, including a fractured ankle and bruises to his waist, shoulder, and leg. Several pedestrians who witnessed the collision rushed to his aid. He immediately contacted Zoya, who had just been dropped home, and she in turn alerted Palak’s family about the incident.

The container driver allegedly fled the scene without stopping or reporting the accident. “The complainant has stated that the driver was speeding and showed complete disregard for road safety,” said a senior police official, according to the report.

Case Filed Against Unknown Driver

The Mumbra Police have registered a case against the unidentified truck driver under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Motor Vehicles Act. Officials confirmed that efforts are currently underway to trace the container truck and arrest the absconding driver.
