Mumbai: A 2-year-old girl tragically lost her life in a road accident on Wednesday morning due to ongoing roadwork in Parel near Nare Park.

The child's parents sustained severe injuries and are undergoing treatment at KEM Hospital. The Bhoiwada Police have registered a case against tempo driver Jung Bahadur and initiated further investigations.

Manoj Pawar (32), a resident of Ghatkopar East's Pant Nagar area and an employee of a private company, had planned a family visit to the Byculla Zoo on New Year’s Day.

Around 10 a.m., Pawar, along with his wife Vidya (29) and 2-year-old daughter Shravi, was traveling on a two-wheeler via Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Road in Parel.

Near Nare Park ground, their bike skidded due to roadwork. All three fell onto the road, and a speeding tempo coming from behind ran over them.

Immediate Response

Traffic police present at the scene promptly rushed the injured to KEM Hospital. However, doctors declared Shravi dead on arrival. Vidya and Manoj remain in critical condition and are undergoing treatment.

Based on Pawar's statement, the police have registered a case against the tempo driver, Jung Bahadur, for negligent driving. The driver was arrested and served a notice, and further legal action is underway.

The tragic incident highlights the risks posed by inadequate safety measures at roadwork sites, leaving a young family's dream outing shattered.
