Mumbai: As the final work around the Metro 3 line nears, fire safety checks at Acharya Atre Chowk to Cuffe Parade stations on the underground Metro 3 line from Aarey to Cuffe Parade have commenced. Inspections have been finalised for three metro stations: CSMT, Vidhan Bhavan, and Cuffe Parade. In the upcoming days, fire safety inspections of the other stations will take place.

The Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) is building a metro line that is 33.5 km in length. It will consist of a total of 27 stations. As a result, the initial phase's 12.69 km route from Aarey to BKC became operational for passengers starting on 7 October 2024.

The second phase's 9.77 km route from BKC to Acharya Atre Chowk station was launched on 9 May. As a result, metro operations have begun at 16 stations spanning from Aarey to Acharya Atre Chowk on Metro 3. MMRC has begun actions related to activating the complete route.

The concluding phase stations are Cuffe Parade, Vidhan Bhavan, Churchgate, Hutatma Chowk, CSMT, Kalbadevi, Girgaum, Grant Road, Mumbai Central, Mahalaxmi, Science Museum. The whole route will become operational immediately upon the receipt of the certificate. MMRC has initiated fire safety examinations for the metro stations. Once these tests have been finished, the CMRS team will be summoned for the final inspection.

Consequently, the MMRC has initiated the procedure of summoning the CMRS team for the final phase route inspection. Once this CMRS certificate is obtained, the full line of Mumbai's first underground metro will be operational for riders.

On the other hand, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde announced plans for a trial run of the Thane Metro service next month, with full operations expected by December. Upon completion, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region will enjoy uninterrupted Metro connectivity, enhancing commute solutions.

The trial is scheduled for September, and initial work on Thane's internal Metro network has commenced to connect it with major Metro lines. Additionally, the freeway expansion from Mumbai to Thane aims to alleviate traffic congestion and redirect services toward Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT).
