If you think Metro Line 7 (Dahisar East to Gundavali) has made commuting smoother, get ready for something even better, Mumbai Metro Line 7A, the red line extension from Gundavali to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) Terminal 2.

This link will give Mumbai’s northern suburbs their first seamless, change-free metro ride straight to the airport.

The Route & Stations

Total length: 3.42 km

Elevated section: 0.94 km along Western Express Highway

Underground section: 2.11 km under Sahar Elevated Road & key utilities

Stations:

Airport Colony (elevated)

CSMIA Terminal 2 (underground, connected to Line 3 Aqua)

Travel Time: Dahisar to T2 in Under 50 Minutes

Currently, road travel from Dahisar to the airport during peak hours can take up to 90 minutes. Once operational (target: December 2026), Metro Line 7A will reduce that to around 43–48 minutes, with:

Dahisar East to Gundavali (Line 7): ~35–38 mins

Gundavali to CSMIA (Line 7A): ~8–10 mins

Construction Status & Cost

Total cost: ₹1,998 crore for Line 7A

Part of Red Line package (Lines 7 + 7A + 9): ₹6,607 crore

Progress (as of July 2025):

61% overall completion

100% tunnelling finished (1.65 km by TBM Disha)

Elevated, ramp & station structures 82–100% complete

Capacity & Ridership

8-coach trains, 2,352 passengers/trip

Red Line projected ridership by 2031: 11+ lakh/day
