Mumbai: The Maha Mumbai Metro has marked a major milestone by surpassing 20 crore passenger journeys on Metro Line 2A (Dahisar to Andheri West) and Metro Line 7 (Dahisar to Gundavali) within just 39 months of operations. This achievement reflects not just the success of the metro system, but also the overwhelming trust and support shown by Mumbaikars.

Launched on April 2, 2022, the two metro corridors have become integral to the city’s daily commute. What started with 19,451 passengers on Day 1 quickly evolved into a city-wide movement. Within just 9 months, the metro recorded 1 crore passengers. That number grew to 10 crore in 25 months, then to 15 crore in 33 months, and now 20 crore by August 2025.

Operated by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), these lines have not only improved urban mobility but also redefined how Mumbai travels safely, swiftly, and sustainably. From office-goers and students to the elderly and tourists, the metro has connected people and places, making everyday travel more efficient.

MMRDA and the Maha Mumbai Metro Operation Corporation Ltd (MMMOCL) expressed deep gratitude to the citizens of Mumbai for their trust and consistent ridership. They also acknowledged the dedicated efforts of the metro staff who made this success possible.

The announcement was shared via a post on X, stating: "Let’s move toward the future—together and smartly." By the Maha Mumbai Metro Operation Corporation Ltd, they also shared data on the passenger count of the Mumbai Metro.

This milestone is more than just a number it signifies Mumbai’s rapid progress toward a smarter, future-ready city. The journey continues as new phases and expansions are planned. The Maha Mumbai Metro remains committed to enhancing public transport and making every journey safe, reliable, and comfortable.
