Raigad: The Fisheries Department banned fishermen in Raigad from purchasing diesel allocations from Indian Oil. Because of the rigid policy of the Fisheries Department, many fishermen in Raigad district faced a predicament on the very first day of the season.
Fishermen's groups took a strong stance against the Fisheries Department's fatwa. The Fisheries Department lifted the prohibition on purchasing diesel from Indian Oil. Consequently, fishing boats can now access diesel without tax.
Begin on August 1, 61 days following the monsoon prohibition. Fishermen in the area had gotten ready for fishing in full force. On July 31, Fisheries Department Commissioner Kishore Tawde declared a fatwa stating that fishing associations in Raigad district must avoid purchasing diesel from the Indian Oil Company.
Consequently, numerous fishing vessels in Raigad district have been stuck at the port since Friday because fishermen have not obtained the subsidized diesel allocation from the government. The fishermen are upset because of the fatwa issued by the Fishermen Commissioner, according to a report by Saamana.
Fishermen awaiting tax-exempt diesel have lost three days of the season. Consequently, the fishermen have encountered significant economic setbacks. Fishermen in Raigad have erupted in anger over this fatwa issued by the Commissioner.
Acknowledging the fishermen's anger, Fisheries Department Commissioner Kishor Tawde today lifted the restriction on purchasing diesel from Indian Oil. Thousands of boats departed for fishing. The path has been opened for fishing vessels to obtain tax-exempt diesel.

A Smart Fish Stock Assessment System (SFSS) is being developed, with the related Memorandum of Understanding signed on 08 July 2025. This initiative aims to improve reservoir development, fisheries production statistics, and data collection for effective distribution and marketing. Officials present included Dr. N. Ramaswamy, Mr. Kishor Tawade, and Sai Krishna.
