Maharashtra: In a disturbing incident, a 16-year-old girl from Adivali in the Dombivli area of Thane was allegedly kidnapped and raped by a 20-year-old man during their train journey to Akola. Senior police inspector Pandhari Kande from the Government Railway Police (GRP), Kalyan, said on Monday.

According to police, the incident took place on June 30. The man took the girl on a train from Thane to Akola and raped her during the journey, as reported by news agency PTI. When they reached Akola, the man's parents refused to let them enter their house. He then left the girl alone at the Akola railway station and returned to his home.

Railway police in Akola found the girl at the station and spoke to her. She told them about the crime, after which a 'zero FIR' was registered and later transferred to Kalyan GRP (Government Railway Police).

On Sunday, the Kalyan GRP filed a First Information Report (FIR) against a man under sections 64 (rape), 74 (assault or use of criminal force against a woman with the intent to outrage her modesty), and 137 (kidnapping) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, as well as provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The police reported that efforts are underway to apprehend the accused, as per the report.

47-Year-Old Man Sentenced to 10 Years for Raping and Impregnating Minor Girl

A special POCSO court in Mumbai has sentenced a 47-year-old man to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment for sexually assaulting and impregnating a minor girl. The court noted that the victim was over 16 years old at the time of the incident and had sufficient maturity to understand the nature of what had occurred.

The conviction was primarily based on the testimony of the victim and DNA evidence, which confirmed that both the accused and the girl were the biological parents of the fetus she had conceived.

While delivering the verdict on Saturday, the court exercised a degree of leniency, considering that the accused has a wife and an unmarried daughter who are dependent on him. It reiterated that the victim was above 16 years of age at the time of the incident and had an adequate understanding of the circumstances.
