Mumbai: A massive traffic jam was witnessed on Bhiwandi Wada Road on Sunday morning following a heavily loaded truck that was stuck, which resulted in heavy traffic for around 5 to 6 kilometers. However, on Wednesday, due to rainfall, the road surface was severely damaged, and traffic was affected.

The heavily loaded vehicle was stuck due to an imbalance between the concrete road and the construction road near Borpada village, within the jurisdiction of the Bhiwandi Taluka Police Station, on Sunday morning, which significantly hindered traffic movement.

The situation was further aggravated due to ongoing road construction at several points along the route. The traffic congestion extended to five to six kilometers, with several commuters stranded at different locations on Bhiwandi Wada Road for over one to two hours.

Senior Police Inspector, Vilas Kadam from Bhiwandi Taluka Police Station said, "The traffic was jammed due to heavy vehicle being stranded because of an imbalance. There were several roadworks being carried out. Our team was on the spot to clear the traffic."

Locals said that the traffic congestion extended from the rural part of Bhiwandi to Bhiwandi City, resulting in a traffic snarl internal part the city also. The traffic build-up left many residents and travellers immobilized for over one hours during peak morning hours.

The Bhiwandi Wada Road is one of the main roads that connect Bhiwandi-Mumbai-Thane to Surat-Vadodara-Gujarat. The road construction work is being conducted by a contractor who is working very slowly. Several villagers and a political party staged a protest regarding the slow pace of the road work being carried out by the contractor, and they also raised questions about the quality of the material used for the road. Despite the protests, the situation remained the same.

Pankaj Gaikwad, General Secretary of the Thane Rural Congress Party, told FPJ that we, along with the villagers, staged a protest and gave a letter to the concerned authority and Public Works Department regarding the slow progress and inferior quality of the materials used for the construction by the contractor. However, the situation remained the same despite the protests.
