Indore (Madhya Pradesh): A female IT engineer from Indore was duped of Rs 8 lakh by cyber crooks in Indore. The accused posed as courier company staff and tricked her into sharing her bank details by falsely claiming that a parcel in her name contained drugs on Friday.
They threatened to ruin her reputation and managed to steal ₹8 lakh from her bank account.

According to information, the victim, Kanupriya Gupta, a resident of Annapurna, Indore, filed a complaint with the Crime Branch police.
She said that on November 4, 2024, at 4 PM, she got a call from someone pretending to be from FedEx Courier Service. The caller lied that a parcel in her name, sent from Singapore, had been caught in Mumbai and was filled with drugs.
The scammers made the call look real by connecting it to a Skype ID from Mumbai. The person on the call kept his camera off and only spoke in audio. He scared Kanupriya by saying that this case could ruin her image and her family’s reputation.
The fraudster threatened that if she did not cooperate, they would edit her photos and spread false news about her online. Out of fear, Kanupriya shared her bank details as the scammers asked.
Rs16 Lakh loan taken in her name
The scammers took a ₹16 lakh loan using her bank account. However, due to her account’s transaction limits, they were only able to transfer ₹4 lakh twice, stealing a total of ₹8 lakh.
The next day, Kanupriya realised the fraud and immediately contacted her bank to freeze her account. She also filed a complaint on the cyber crime portal.
The Indore Crime Branch has started an investigation and is working to catch the scammers.
