Indore (Madhya Pradesh): City crime branch managed to return Rs 1.78 crore to the online fraud victims in 23 cases received in July. The investigations are on to return the amount to other complainants and information about the online scammers is also being gathered.
Additional DCP (crime) Rajesh Dandotiya informed Free Press that following instructions from commissioner of police, the crime branch’s fraud investigation teams have been actively identifying and taking action against individuals involved in online frauds.
Complaints received through the cyber helpline, NCRP portal and other channels are promptly investigated with efforts made to ensure that the victims get their money back.
Types of cyber fraud reported in July
Dandotiya further said that in July, the complaints of investment-related online scams (social media tasks, trading, gaming, etc.), fraud calls posing as bank officials, tricking people into KYC updates, redeeming reward points or increasing credit card limit, scams by impersonating acquaintances or relatives and the fraud through online gaming apps were reported.
The crime branch has been running large-scale cyber awareness programmes, educating people on how to protect themselves from online frauds. The people are urged to report online scam immediately through Indore Police’s cyber helpline at 704912-4445, by making phone calls to 1930 or via the NCRP portal.
