Lucknow: A fierce storm swept through parts of Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday night, killing at least 34 people and leaving dozens injured. The intense weather brought with it high-speed winds, heavy rain, and lightning, causing widespread damage in both urban and rural areas.

Noida and Ghaziabad reported tragic incidents of falling trees, walls, and even metal structures crushing people. In Noida’s Omicron-III sector, a woman and her two-year-old grandson died after a grill fell from a high-rise building. In NTPC Township, a man was killed when a tree collapsed on him. Similar scenes unfolded in Ghaziabad, Hapur, Kanpur, and other districts.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed officials to rush aid to affected families. Relief payments, medical care for the injured, and crop damage surveys have been ordered.

He also instructed drainage arrangements in areas with waterlogging. While the storm cooled down rising temperatures, the destruction it left behind raised serious concerns about preparedness. In many localities, trees and poles fell with little resistance, and building safety remains under question.

More storms are expected later this week, with the Meteorological Department predicting continued thunderstorm activity in the region.

Injured individuals must receive proper medical treatment without delay.

The Chief Minister also emphasized the need for a thorough survey to assess crop losses. Reports must be submitted to the state government for further action. In areas experiencing waterlogging, priority must be given to drainage arrangements to prevent further disruption.
