Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Madhya Pradesh Cooperative Department has amended the act to roll out the CPPP (Cooperative, Public, Private, Partnership) Model wherein traders or any private person and even a company will be able to tie-up with cooperative societies to buy agriculture produce of farmers and to support peasants in growing the crop. The CPPP model has received laurels from the Centre.

A senior officer of the cooperative department said that under the initial phase, traders have done tie-up with cooperative societies in Raisen district. They are providing training and fertilizer to farmers so that their desired produce becomes a quality product.

Once farmers reach agreement with traders, they have to sell their entire produce to traders. This is a win- win situation for both farmers and traders. Farmers can also sell other raw materials to traders.

The Joint Commissioner of MP Cooperative Department, Ambrish Vaidya told Free Press that Madhya Pradesh is the first state in the country to amend the act and show a progress path through traders.

Sources in the cooperative department said that under the amended act, some big traders have focused on Raisen district. One major group related with rice will buy rice in Raisen district. Another group will procure Napier grass.

As this is the first year under the CPPP formula, it has only limited area under focus. But in future, work under CPPP formula is likely to get enhanced.

Before entering into contract with cooperative societies, traders will have to take necessary permission from Registrar Cooperative. This rider has been introduced to protect interest of farmers.

Meanwhile, as many as nineteen Memorandum of Understandings (MoU) were signed during Global Investors Summit and of them, three have seen the light of the day.
