Ganj Basoda (Madhya Pradesh): Legislator Hari Singh Raghuwanshi has submitted a proposal to local MP and union minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and water resources minister Tulisi Silawat for setting up irrigation projects worth ₹100 crore.
According to sources, once the project is approved, more than 5,000 farmers in the Gyaraspur and Ganj Basoda assembly constituency. Raghuwanshi has also submitted a memorandum to Chauhan and Silawat regarding the problems the farmers are facing in irrigating their fields.
The Bavna project is a medium pressurised irrigation scheme to be set up on 8,500 hectares that will cost the government ₹43,263 lakh. A list of 41 villages that will get the benefits from the project has been attached to the proposal.
Besides, there is a proposal for a small irrigation scheme in Lakhuli. Its construction area is 788 hectares, and its cost will be ₹3,071 lakh. More than 650 farmers will get the benefits from the project.
There is another small irrigation project in Dhaukheda to be set up on 450 hectares. The government will spend ₹2,088.75 lakh. More than 250 farmers of the Dhaukheda, Pipariya and Rahish Nagar areas will get the benefits of the project.
There is another irrigation project in Mohammadgarh, which will be set up on 570 hectares at a cost of ₹2,564.96 lakh. The farmers of Mohammadgarh, Chikli and Chirwata villages will get the benefits of the project.
The big Betwa pressurised irrigation project, which will cost ₹70,002 lakh, will benefit the farmers of 43 villages. Out of 43 villages, 21 belong to the Ganj Basoda assembly constituency.
Over 3,000 farmers will be able to irrigate 17,100 hectares. There is another proposed barrage near the Betwa River in Chourawar village. A tender has been invited to survey the proposed project. The barrage will have the capacity to store 50 mm of water to help the farmers to irrigate 15,000 hectares.
According to reports, during Chauhan’s trip to Ganj Basoda on July 6, the projects may get the government’s nod.
