Bhind (Madhya Pradesh): More than 70 people fell ill after eating pua (a sweet dish) distributed as prasad during a religious event in Bhind on Monday.
Out of these, 15 people had to be admitted to the district hospital.
The incident took place in Amlehdi village under Barohi police station area.
After receiving information, CMHO Dr J S Yadav reached the village at night with the health team and started treatment. Villagers suspect that the ghee used to make the prasad might have been adulterated.
According to reports, local resident Radhakrishna Tomar organized a religious ceremony for his 11-month-old son Shaurya. Around 10 kg of pua were made using flour and distributed in the village as prasad.
Tomar said that the pua was prepared using ghee bought from a local grocery shop for ₹400 per kg. The ghee container had the brand name ‘Ayesha’, but it did not carry any quality or safety marks.
After eating the prasad, many people started complaining of stomach pain, vomiting, and diarrhea within a few hours. Over 70 villagers fell sick, and the health department was informed immediately.
Dr Yadav and his team reached the spot and began treatment. Fifteen people, including Radha, Ramvati, Kanthatri, Rakesh, Sushila, Shimla, Kiran, and Nirmala, were admitted to the district hospital. All are now reported to be out of danger.
Samples of the pua, ghee, and fried items have been collected and sent for lab testing. Dr Yadav also informed that a health camp will be organized in the village for the next three days.
Action will be taken after the lab report is received. Meanwhile, the grocery shop owner has shut his shop and is missing.
