Gwalior (Madhya Pradesh): The Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP) have stepped up security at all major railway stations including Gwalior because of Independence Day approaching.

Station in-charges have been instructed to escalate patrolling and surveillance with joint RPF-GRP teams who were tasked with monitoring suspicious persons, preventing crimes and ensuring the safety of passengers, especially women and children.

Multiple arrests were made during security checks. RPF personnel detained youth carrying illegal liquor at platform number one on Sunday morning.

ASI and other officials confronted the suspect near the Jhansi end of the platform. Upon searching his luggage, officers discovered 299 quarters of country liquor which was approximately 53 liters in total.

The accused was identified as 21-year-old Naved Khan alias Takle, a resident of Mohalla Bajariya under Bhander police station limits in Datia district. He admitted to purchasing liquor at low prices in Gwalior to resell in Datia. He was handed over to the Excise Department along with the seized liquor.

In another action, RPF teams patrolling the railway yard in the early hours of Sunday, caught three men stealing railway property. The thieves were attempting to take away coach under gear wires (164 mm and 64 mm) along with 10 pandral clips under the cover of darkness.

The accused were identified as Lakhan Parihar, Rahul Batham alias Neelu and Gyasiram Batham. Lakhan Parihar already had a case registered against him under Section 3 of the Railway Property Act from 2020. All three were taken into custody and the stolen property was recovered.

RPF has registered cases against all arrested individuals and emphasized that such checks and night patrols will continue until after Independence Day.

Authorities have assured that strict action will be taken against anyone found engaging in criminal activities on railway premises with special focus on passenger safety during the festive period.
