Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Alarmed over two incidents of fraud through fraudulently issued cheque books, police officials suspect that an organised gang is involved in the incidents.

Moreover, theft of cheques from the drop box of a private bank under Kotwali police station a day ago has given support to the speculation. In the recent incident, fraudsters issued cheque book from the bank account of a trader Kuldeep Parlani, a resident of Gautam Nagar.

The conmen used RTGS through the cheque to transfer cash Rs 3.81 lakh and purchased gold coins. Kuldeep did not receive alert on his mobile as the fraudsters got his registered mobile number blocked from the bank.

The trader was shocked after he learnt of the fraud and lodged a police complaint at Gautam Nagar police station on Sunday.

In a similar manner, a senior citizen Kamlakar Khadikar was duped of over Rs 41.36 lakh through fraudulently issued cheque book. A resident of Data Colony, Khadikar used to live alone and his daughter lodged a complaint at Koh-e-Fiza police station around a month back. Police cracked the case and arrested one Anshul Aylani, a resident of Data Colony.

It came to fore that Anshul and his sister forged signatures of Khadikar and got cheque books issued in his name. Anshul who was arrested by police on Friday used the cheques to make RTGS payments to jewellers and purchased gold coins. He hired bikers of Ola and Uber companies to pick up parcels ordered by him and avoided CCTV cameras while at bank and other places.

Gautam Nagar police station incharge Mahendra Singh Thakur said modus operandi in both incidents was the same and the same gang or individuals might be behind both incidents of frauds.

However, investigations are underway in this connection and CCTV footages were being scanned to identify the suspects following which anything concrete could be said, he added.
