In the viral video he added, "I know a lot of Tibetans who speak Kannada more than their mother tongue." One of the impressive thing he said was how he gained respect for speaking in the local language. He said, “People respect me a lot when I speak in Kannada. They feel proud that an outsider is speaking the local language.”

He also expressed how much he adores the language and how it has become an unavoidable part of his daily life. He also mentioned the fact that many such Tibetan people in his community speak the language.

Language debate in Bengaluru

While many claim that Kannada is being imposed on outsiders in Bengaluru and some other parts of Karnataka, such videos of people embracing the local language add a different angle to the debate.

In a recent controversy, an SBI bank manager refused to speak Kannada with a customer and the incident triggered an argument in Bengaluru's Chandapura branch. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah criticised the banker for not speaking Kannada despite the customer repeatedly urging him to do so.
