A 43-year-old Chinese woman has sparked outrage after a video of her blocking a train door to let her friends board went viral on social media. The incident, which took place at Shenzhen Station, shows the woman physically resisting railway officers as she stands between the closing doors, refusing to move until her companions got on.
According to The Sun, the woman daringly used her body to hold the doors open while station staff tried to pull her inside for safety. Ignoring their pleas, she remained aggressive, even signaling for her friends to hurry. At one point, she casually checked her phone as officers struggled to resolve the situation. The officers in the video were seen struggling to push the girl inside the train. Eventually, her friends managed to board, and the train departed on time.

Authorities later tracked down the woman in Xiamen and detained her for disrupting train operations. Such behavior violates China’s strict transport regulations, which prioritize passenger safety and punctuality.
The video drew mixed reactions online. Some criticized the woman’s entitlement, with one commenter writing, "They should’ve been kicked off immediately!"
Others linked the incident to issues of public etiquette, with a netizen remarking, "Money can’t buy class this kind of behavior tarnishes China’s reputation."
However, a few defended her, arguing that the pressure to catch trains in China’s fast-paced society can lead to desperate actions. Still, most agreed that endangering safety for personal convenience was unacceptable.
The incident highlights ongoing challenges in enforcing public order, especially as viral videos amplify such misconduct. While "main character syndrome" isn’t unique to China, the backlash reflects growing impatience with those who disregard rules.
Chinese railway officials reiterated that delays caused by such behavior risk severe penalties, including fines and travel bans.
