In Uttar Pradesh's Maharajganj, a male dance teacher of a private convent school was arrested under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act after he was accused of inappropriately touching students by taking them to bus parking or toilets. A video from the school showed him beaten by a parent after he was reportedly caught in an obscene act with a minor girl studying in Class 2.
The dance teacher was identified as Arjun Jaiswal.
Dance teacher slapped
The incident led to a confrontation between parents and Jaiswal, where the teacher was slapped and thrashed in an outburst of anger. The family members of the young girl created a ruckus at the school and attacked the teacher.
Visuals from the incident showed a woman yelling at Jaiswal and beating him after learning about his 'bad touch' based acts. She held his collar and slapped him for his concerning behaviour with the girl on the pretext of taking dance lessons.
A report by Aaj Tak mentioned Jaiswal would take children near parked buses or washrooms to touch them inappropriately.
Police action follows
As the recent matter came to light, the Class 2 student's family reached the police station and lodged a case against the dance teacher on March 3. According to local media reports, she has been charged for molesting the female student. The police have initiated legal action against the accused and arrested him under the POCSO Act.
On Tuesday, Police Officer Asha Singh released a video on X and said, "Taking cognisance of the information about a dance teacher of a school situated in Thana Kotwali area doing obscene acts with school children, a case was immediately registered under relevant sections and the concerned dance teacher has been arrested, legal action is underway".
The school authorities told the media they have suspended Jaiswal.
