A video showing a group of women singing bhajans alongside playing traditional musical instruments inside a Delhi Metro train has gone viral, sparking mixed reactions from the public. The incident took place during rush hour when the train was packed with passengers. The women, dressed in sarees and traditional Indian attire, loudly performed bhajans inside the public transports. He recited devotional songs accompanied by instruments such as the dholak and kartaal, turning the otherwise rail journey into a noisy one.

As the bhajan session was on, most passengers seemed unfazed by the impromptu performance and they kept themselves engrossed in their mobile phones. However, as the video surfaced online, netizens were stunned over the loud bhajan inside the transport.

CISF takes action

The clip, however, showed a Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel stepping into THE coach and stopping the bhajan activity. He ensured no such activity caused nuisance or inconvenience to others onboard.

He took responsibility for maintaining security in the metro and intervened. The uniformed CISF jawan scolded the women for causing nuisance or inconvenience to others onboard. The group stopped the performance and apologised to him.

The incident, which could have escalated further, was resolved without any written complaint or fine.

Internet reacts

The video quickly spread on social media, sparking debates about civic sense and the appropriateness of religious performances in a public space like the metro.

Online reactions to the incident were divided. Some users criticised the group and wrote, "Civic sense k liye public places koi prayer, bhajan etc. krke nuisance nhi failana chaiye (For the sake of civic sense, one must not engage in prayer or bhajan at public places and spread nuisance)". “Religion should be practiced in religious places, or at home. Why here?”, said another.

On the other hand, a few users defended the activity, saying, “So what? At least they are not smoking, drinking, or playing cards. They’re singing bhajans for entertainment".

Noting the transport has often made headlines for its infamous fights, one commented, "Ab ye sab bhi shuru ho gya metro me! (Now even this has started in metro)".
