Kerala’s Sports Minister V. Abdurahiman has reaffirmed that the Argentina national football team, led by global football icon Lionel Messi, is indeed scheduled to visit the state later this year. His statement has rekindled excitement among football lovers in Kerala after months of uncertainty surrounding the event.

Speaking to the media on Saturday, the minister stated that the Argentina team would likely arrive during the October-November FIFA international window and would be treated as state guests during their stay. He also confirmed that all arrangements regarding accommodation, security, and other logistics would be handled by the Kerala government.

Addressing concerns about the delay in scheduling, the minister clarified that the delay had stemmed from a lag in payment of the match fee by the sponsor. “The sponsor has paid the amount now. There is no other obstacles in this regard. As per the FIFA window, October-November is the time allotted for the world teams to take part in such events. So, the same time is likely to be allotted for us also,” Abdurahiman explained.

Clearing the Air on Cancellation Rumors

The announcement comes after speculation earlier this year that Argentina might have cancelled their proposed visit due to contractual issues with the sponsor. However, both the minister and the sponsor, Reporter Broadcasting Company, had firmly denied such claims.

To further reassure the public, Abdurahiman posted a brief but powerful message on his official Facebook page on Friday, stating simply: “Messi will come.” The post quickly gained traction, stoking fresh anticipation among football fans across the state.

Minister Abdurahiman reiterated that the government’s objective is not just to host a world-class event but also to inspire the youth and elevate Kerala’s status on the global sports map.
