Team India register heart-stopping win at The Kia Oval to level series

As far as the events of The Oval Test goes, the tourists managed to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat to level the five-Test series against England. With India setting 374 for the hosts to chase down, they had them at 106/3 at one stage. However, the 195-run partnership between Harry Brook and Joe Root helped the Englishmen stage a comeback in the run-chase.

It was the wicket of Brook for 111, dismissed by Akash Deep that spurred a comeback from the visitors. From comfortably sitting at 301/4, England had slipped to 339/6 by the end of Day 4. They still required only 35 runs to win with four wickets to spare on Day 5 but Mohammed Siraj took three out of the remaining four scalps to fall to close out the win.

Visiting captain Shubman Gill reflected on the miraculous win at The Oval, claiming that the match and series was a perfect example of different players stepping up in different situations. The 25-year-old had said, as quoted by The Hindustan Times:

"I'm feeling very ecstatic and high right now and very happy with the way everyone performed. Very happy with the way everyone contributed throughout the series. Different people stepping in at different moments. This is what you want as a captain, and I'm very happy with the way I performed as a batter as well."

Gill and Harry Brook received the Player of the Series awards, clattering 754 and 481 runs, respectively.
