Team India opener Rohit Sharma has suggested that he was keen for revenge from Australia in the T20 World Cup 2024 for their defeat in the 2023 World Cup final. The right-handed batter sarcastically stated that they needed to gift Australia since they ruined the entire country's night on November 19.
Team India entered the 2023 World Cup final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad as overwhelming favourites. However, Australia stunned them and the partisan crowd at the gigantic stadium, winning by six wickets to lift their sixth World Cup title. Travis Head starred on the night with 137 off 120 deliveries.
Nevertheless, India outplayed the Aussies in the T20 World Cup game, beating them by 24 runs.
Speaking to Star Sports about the game, Rohit stated:
"Gussa sabke andar rehta hai. Woh cheez back of the mind rehti hai. Inhone humaara 19 November kharaab kar diya tha. Humaara hee nahin, poore desh ka. Inke liye kuch rakhna chahiye hume. Inko bhi kuch accha gift dena chahiye hume. Yeh sab cheez rehta hai dimaag mein, lekin aap jab game khelte ho. Lekin jab main batting karta hoon, main yeh nahin sochta hoon ki inko tournament se bahar karna hai. Aisa nahin hota. Dressing room mein yeh sab baat hoti hai, aapas mein mazaak masti chalta rehta hai. Ki inko bahaar karte hain maza aayega."
(There is anger inside everyone, that thing is at the back of the mind. They ruined out November 19 and for the entire country. So, we also need to give them some gift. These things are in the back of the mind. But I don't think about eliminating them from the tournament when I'm batting. We talk about it in the dressing room and have our fun, thinking let's eliminate them.)

Meanwhile, Rohit was a chief contributor in terms of runs during the tournament, aggregating 257 runs in eight innings at 36.71, including a best of 92 against Australia. Although he failed in the final against South Africa, the Men in Blue sneaked in a thrilling seven-run victory to lift their second title.
After the tournament, the veteran retired from T20I cricket.
