The growing nexus between crime and political leaders is not new. In a recent incident at Mutha Nagar (near Chetna Garden) in Pune's Kondhwa, the son-in-law of a former corporator was caught on CCTV vandalising vehicles in the area late at night on Tuesday.
The incident took place around 11:30pm, when Javed Pathan, son-in-law of former corporator Haji Gafur Pathan, along with a group of associates, allegedly created panic in the area by smashing vehicles with sharp weapons, including a koyta.
According to the information, the attack arose after a minor verbal dispute with local social activist Imtiyaz Shaikh.
Javed Pathan and his group were seen roaming the area with weapons and deliberately damaging parked vehicles, attempting to instil fear among residents. The entire act was captured on CCTV cameras installed in the locality.
Despite the availability of clear footage and eyewitness accounts, local police have reportedly not taken any action so far, raising serious concerns over law and order in the city.
Citizens are questioning the delay in police response, especially after the political links of the accused.
