Just six days after it was repaired, a road in Pune's Dhayari area was seen melting, and people of the area struggled to walk on it as their footwear got stuck.
This comes days after a newly made road was dug up by a builder in the same area just four days after renovation.
The Dhayari area sees heavy traffic during peak hours, and residents are slamming the civic administration for shoddy work.
The melted road triggered strong reactions online. While some blamed the heat, others claimed that substandard work led to the melting of bitumen and inconvenience to commuters. The melting asphalt forced vehicle riders to drive cautiously to avoid getting slipped.
Residents speak up
Speaking with the Free Press Journal, Mahesh Pokale, Dhayari Shiv Sena (UBT) leader, said, "The newly repaired roads at Umbrya Ganpati Chowk a few days back have started to melt. The PMC carried out the repair work before the onset of monsoon and they used asphalt, but it has been found that the roads have started to melt and are sticking to the shoes. The civic body just does the patchwork and misuses the taxpayers' money."
"The quality of asphalt used is bad; they just do the repair work for namesake. They put the asphalt on the already existing road instead of scraping it, which is why it is melting. They just want to spend money to keep their records clear. But the quality of material used is questionable," he added.
Meanwhile, a resident, Priti Kamble, said, "My mother and I went to the market yesterday in the afternoon, and all the asphalt stuck to our chappals. People said that the road was newly done, but this is a waste of our money if this is the situation."

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) had made the Umbrya Ganapati Chowk road in Dhayari just six days ago.
