Pune Cracks Down On Traffic Violations: 66,000 Motorists Fined, ₹17.4 Crore Collected In FY 2024-25

Penalties were imposed for violations such as over-speeding, riding without helmets, driving without seat belts, lacking valid insurance, signal jumping, lane cutting, wrong parking, overloading of goods vehicles, using mobile phones while driving, absence of reflectors or tail lamps, triple riding on two-wheelers, and using fancy number plates.

The flying squad of Pune Regional Transport Office (RTO) penalised 66,653 traffic violators in the financial year 2024-25, generating a total revenue of Rs 17.4 crore through fines.

Penalties were imposed for violations such as over-speeding, riding without helmets, driving without seat belts, lacking valid insurance, signal jumping, lane cutting, wrong parking, overloading of goods vehicles, using mobile phones while driving, absence of reflectors or tail lamps, triple riding on two-wheelers, and using fancy number plates.

Alongside strict enforcement, the RTO reported an increase in the issuance of driving licences during the year.

Over 3.7 Lakh licence issued

Permanent driving licences rose from 1,32,944 in FY 2023-24 to 1,56,638 in FY 2024-25. Similarly, learning licences increased from 2,77,904 to 3,07,334 during the same period.

Swapnil Bhosale, ARTO Pune, speaking to FPJ, mentioned that the rise in licence issuance indicates greater public engagement and awareness regarding traffic norms and road safety.

The flying squad has been regularly conducting checks and awareness programs to reduce road accidents. Pune RTO remains focused on encouraging responsible driving habits while ensuring efficient transport services for the public. Strict action will be taken against rule violators.
