After a video showing Bajrang Dal workers allegedly harassing vendors from the Muslim community in Pune went viral, police registered a Non-Cognizable (NC) complaint at Wanawadi Police Station.
The video, shared by a group member under the title 'Thuk Jihad', accused local vendors of spitting on fruits before selling them. One worker was seen grabbing a vendor's shirt, threatening, and assaulting him.
Meanwhile, Satyajeet Admane, Senior Police Inspector, speaking to Free Press Journal, said that on June 22 around 8AM, near Bhairoba (Nala) Canal in Fatima Nagar, Wanawadi, a few members of Bajrang Dal abused local vendors, alleging they were selling fruits after spitting on them.
"However, acting on the information, a police team reached the spot and handled the situation, maintaining law and order in the area. A vendor has given an NC (Non-Cognizable) complaint at Wanawadi Police Station. Police are investigating the matter, and accordingly, action will be taken," he added.
Meanwhile, SDPI leader Azhar Tamboli, speaking to FPJ, said, "In the area, many minorities are being harassed by a few organisations. The incident took place at the time of the Palkhi procession just to gain fame. However, the police have taken complaints under NC. We have given a letter to a senior police officer as well. We urge the authorities to take the matter seriously."
He had highlighted the video on social media with an appeal to the police to take suo motu action.
