Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLAs Mahesh Landge and Shankar Jagtap have supported the demand for the inclusion of Hinjawadi IT Park in the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC).
"I can empathise with the pain our IT community and residents living in Hinjawadi are facing due to poor urban planning. The recent monsoon spell made things even worse. Hinjawadi is adjacent to Pimpri-Chinchwad, and for the sustainable development of our city, we must consider nearby areas like Hinjawadi, Chakan, and Talegaon in urban planning and transportation," Landge wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
"Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation, as part of its Climate Resilience initiative, is working aggressively on mobility, metro, streetscapes, air pollution, and waste management, making it a competent authority to address the issues in Hinjawadi. I will try to raise the voices of IT professionals in my capacity with the concerned government authorities," the Bhosari MLA added.
Jagtap wrote on X, "Hinjawadi should be included in the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation…! Residents and IT employees in Hinjawadi are troubled by poor roads and daily traffic congestion in the IT Park. Inadequate civic amenities and the deplorable condition of roads are adversely affecting the quality of life here. This is a serious issue, and urgent measures are needed in this regard."
"Incorporating Hinjawadi into PCMC will lead to road repairs, better traffic management, and improved civic facilities. This will provide relief to IT employees and residents and accelerate Hinjawadi’s development. I fully support this demand and urge more people to participate in this campaign," the Chinchwad MLA added.
Sachin Londhe, a member of the Pimpri-Chinchwad Residents Development and Welfare Association, has launched an online petition urging the merger of the Hinjawadi IT Park with the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC). This comes amid growing concerns over deteriorating civic facilities in the area.
In the petition, Londhe said this "is a desperate plea from the thousands of citizens, IT professionals, daily commuters, and residents who endure unimaginable hardships in and around the Hinjawadi IT Park." "Despite being the bedrock of Maharashtra's IT economy and a global tech hub, Hinjawadi suffers from a shocking state of neglect that severely impacts our quality of life, productivity, and the region's economic potential," he added.
As per the petition, thousands of IT professionals, residents of Hinjawadi, Maan, and surrounding villages and localities such as Wakad, Pune City, Chinchwad, Ravet, Punawale, Marunji, Mahalunge, Sus, Baner, and Bavdhan; local businesses operating within and around Wakad and Hinjawadi; students going to educational institutions in the area; and many others are affected due to traffic woes, severe waterlogging, and lack of adequate street lighting in the area.
Due to the persistent problems, Londhe said this is deterring new investments and potentially leading to existing companies reconsidering their presence. The traffic is reducing productivity, there has been a talent exodus as many professionals are moving to other cities or abroad, the quality of life is deteriorating, and it is damaging the state's reputation.
Last week, Baramati MP Supriya Sule wrote a letter to Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, demanding an independent governance authority for Hinjawadi.
