Matrimony Scam: Pune Police Arrest Man Who Duped Divorced Women Of ₹3.6 Crore, Chatted With Over 3,000 Women On Shaadi.com |

In a shocking scam, a man posing as ‘Dr. Rohit Oberoi’ on Shaadi.com duped a divorced woman of ₹3.6 crore from her ₹5 crore alimony. The accused allegedly targeted over 3,000 women through the fake profile, raising serious concerns about safety on matrimonial platforms.

Pune Cyber Police have arrested the man who is accused of duping thousands of women through a fake profile on a matrimonial site on june 25. The incident took place from September 2024 to June 2025.

The fake profile was identified as Dr. Rohit Oberoi, while the real accused is Abhishek Shukla (42), born in Lucknow, India, and holding Australian citizenship.

According to police, Shukla created a dummy registration on the matrimonial site. Using this fake account, he connected with a 40-year-old divorced woman residing in Kharadi, Pune, originally from Delhi. Taking advantage of the friendship, he asked the victim if she was interested in starting a startup or business, offering help with funding.

Chatted With 3,000+ Women! Are You One Of Them?

Pankaj Deshmukh, Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime), said the accused chatted with more than 3,000 women as per preliminary investigations. Police are trying to contact these women and urged citizens to stay alert while registering on matrimonial sites.

Mumbai Airport authorities alerted the police, leading to Shukla’s detention at Mumbai Airport.

Shukla mostly targeted divorced women, possibly because he presented himself as divorced.

Swapnali Shinde, Senior Police Inspector of the Cyber Police Station, revealed that the victim had assets worth Rs 5 crore. After creating a profile on Shaadi.com, she connected with Abhishek Shukla, who convinced her to marry him under the pretext of starting a business. Trusting him, the victim transferred Rs 3.60 crore across four bank accounts, including one in Citibank Singapore.

After traveling abroad, Shukla began avoiding her calls. In September 2024, Shukla’s friend emailed the victim claiming Abhishek Shukla had died of cancer. The victim was traumatized for a month after hearing the news.

She then filed a complaint on the 1930 toll-free number and with Pune Cyber Police.

Acting on this information, cyber police alerted airport authorities, and Shukla was arrested at Mumbai Airport on June 25. The investigation is ongoing.
