Nashik city and district were lashed by rain on Sunday (June 15). A total of 42.1 mm of rain was recorded during the day. The city had cloudy weather since Sunday morning, which continued on Monday as well. The heat was felt due to increased humidity in the air. Heavy rain started around 4:30pm. 13.4 mm of rain poured till 5:30pm, while 28.7 mm of rain was recorded between 5:30pm and 8:30pm. The Meteorological Department recorded a total of 42.1 mm of rain between 4:30pm and 8:30pm.

Heavy rain has been continuing in the district for the last three days. The rain was particularly heavy in Kalwan taluka on Sunday. Meanwhile, a 'Yellow Alert' has been issued for the Ghats of the district for the next 24 hours, while the Meteorological Department has predicted moderate rain in the remaining areas.

Nashik city also received heavy rain with lightning for about 15 minutes around 4pm on Sunday, followed by heavy rain again around 4:30pm for about 15 minutes. This led to waterlogging at many places in the city and traffic congestion.

The monsoon, which had been dormant for a week, has become active again. Moderate to heavy showers have been experienced in various parts of the district for the last two days. Rain also came on Sunday, a holiday. Kalwan had cloudy weather since morning. After the afternoon, heavy rains were witnessed in many parts of the taluka. It washed away the crops in the Niwane area. This is likely to affect vegetables and other crops. The monsoon has also become active in the remaining parts of the district. Especially in Igatpuri, Trimbakeshwar, Peth, Surgana and Baglan talukas, moderate to heavy showers came intermittently throughout the day. An average of 50 mm of rain has been recorded in the district in the first fortnight of June. Meanwhile, heavy showers are expected in the Ghatmathya area of the district on Monday (June 16). The remaining places will see light rain for the next three days.

Livestock damage due to lightning

The ongoing rains, accompanied by lightning in the district, are causing damage to the livestock of farmers. On Saturday night, a cow died due to lightning in Mouje Lodhare (Tal. Nandgaon). The district administration has informed that an incident also occurred in Thangaon of Sinnar taluka.

Rivers and drains flood in Niwane area

Due to heavy rains in Niwane, Dahyane, Bhendi and Varavarwadi villages between 12:30pm and 2pm on Sunday, rivers and drains started overflowing, leaving citizens stranded. The Takli Nala and Chinchohal Nala of Niwane and Dahyane villages were flooded, as was the river at Niwane. Traffic between Niwane and Dahyane was disrupted for two hours as water was flowing over the floor bridge. The rains damaged tomato, coriander and chilli crops.
