Major changes are expected in the weather in Nashik district from May 23 to 28. According to the district-level weather forecast and warning issued by the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Mumbai, there is a possibility of lightning, winds blowing at a speed of 40–50 km/hr, and heavy rain in Nashik district and the Ghat area on May 23. Along with this, a yellow alert has been issued for light to moderate rain, lightning, and strong winds (40–50 km/hr) from May 24 to 27. In addition, the sky will remain cloudy from May 24 to 28, the maximum temperature will be 30–32 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature will be 21–23 degrees Celsius, while the wind speed is likely to be 1.3 to 10.1 km/hr.

The Meteorological Department has appealed to farmers and those engaged in animal husbandry to take precautions. It has advised covering harvested summer crops, especially vegetables and onions, with plastic sheets or tarpaulin to keep them safe. It has also appealed to keep livestock, especially goats, in a shed and away from water bodies, lakes, or rivers to protect them from lightning strikes.

Advisory for Citizens

Citizens of Nashik district should carry an umbrella or raincoat while going out over the next five days. Avoid staying in open places due to the risk of lightning strikes and strong winds. Citizens living in the Ghat area should be especially careful, as there is a high possibility of heavy rain in these areas.

Points to note

Crop Protection: Cover harvested crops, onions, and vegetables with tarpaulin or plastic sheeting to protect them from rain. Move crops kept in the field or under shade to a safe place.

Livestock Care: Keep goats and other animals in sheds. Keep them away from open water bodies or rivers.

Weather Forecast: Heavy rain is expected on May 23, and light to moderate rain is expected between May 24 and 27. Along with this, there is a risk of lightning and strong winds.

Advice for Farmers

As per the Meteorological Department's advice, farmers should shift their harvested crops and stored goods to a safe place. Onions, which are more likely to be damaged by rain, should be covered with tarpaulin. Also, if there is a possibility of waterlogging in the fields, proper drainage should be arranged to prevent crop damage.

Precautions for Livestock Keepers

Lightning strikes and strong winds can pose a threat to livestock. Therefore, goats and other animals should be tied up in sheds. Animals should be kept away from open water bodies or riverbanks.
