Thane: To facilitate the connection of a new railway department flyover with the existing one at Dattuwadi Retibandar, the Thane Traffic Police has implemented a major traffic diversion in Mumbra for the next 60 days. The old railway bridge in the area will also remain closed during this period, reducing the available space for vehicular movement to just one lane. This is expected to cause significant traffic congestion for those entering and exiting Mumbra city.

The Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Pankaj Shirsat, has announced a temporary ban on the entry of heavy vehicles, specifically those over 2.8 meters in height, coming into Mumbra from Retibandar. Parking has also been strictly prohibited on both sides of the main road between Dattuwadi and Retibandar until the work is completed.

As part of the traffic diversion plan, alternate routes have been designated. Vehicles traveling from Retibandar to Mumbra must use the Mumbra Bypass via the Y Junction. Similarly, those heading from Mumbra to Thane should follow the Mumbra Bypass, and those who are travelling from Mumbra to Thane via Mumbra railway station proceed through Kausa Bypass, then onto Retibandar junction.

This traffic arrangement will remain in force for 60 days beginning April 23, 2025. However, the restrictions will not apply to emergency and essential service vehicles, including police, ambulances, fire brigades, green corridor services, and oxygen supply vehicles.

Authorities have urged commuters and transporters to cooperate with the new rules to ensure safety and smoother traffic flow during the flyover construction phase.
