Mumbai: In a shocking incident on Friday morning, a 48-year-old man allegedly stabbed his 45-year-old sister in Andheri over a property dispute. The conflict arose after their mother, granted all property rights to the sister, Anvaya Kiran Paingankar, and not to the brother.

The accused, identified as Ashish Karandikar, is a resident of Lallubhai Park in Andheri West. He lived with his 80-year-old mother, his children, and his sister. Fifteen years ago, Karandikar moved to Meghalaya, according to police reports. His sister lived in Goregaon with her husband but moved in with their mother to help take care of her and Karandikar's children. During this time, the mother transferred all property rights to Paingankar, according to a Hindustan Times report.

A police official stated that the altercation began when Karandikar returned home two years ago. The officer also mentioned that the building in dispute is currently undergoing redevelopment.

When Karandikar returned home two years ago and learned about the property dispute, the conflicts began, said the police officer. At the time of the incident, Karandikar’s two children and his mother were also at home. They alerted the police, who arrived on the scene and arrested Karandikar, as Jadhav noted.

The incident occurred when the siblings began arguing over property rights. In a fit of rage, Karandikar stabbed his sister in the abdomen four times with a kitchen knife, according to Senior Inspector Sunil Jadhav of the Juhu police station, as per report.

The body of the deceased, Paingankar, was sent to Cooper Hospital for a postmortem, and the accused has been arrested for murder.
