In a separate news story a 20-year-old man who was feared drowned near Juhu was recovered approximately 14 hours later after it washed ashore, officials confirmed on Saturday, August 2. The deceased has been identified as Vighnesh Murgesh Devendran.

Devendran had entered the Arabian Sea at Silver Beach, near Godrej Gate in Juhu, around 8:30 a.m. on Friday, August 1. Soon after, he went missing and was suspected to have drowned, a civic official stated. According to authorities, Devendran and another person, Rajkumar Subba (22), began drowning roughly 200 metres from the shore.

While Subba was rescued by a lifeguard in time, a search operation was launched by the fire brigade to locate Devendran. However, the operation had to be suspended at 1:45 p.m. due to a high tide. Later, around 10:30 p.m., Devendran’s motionless body was discovered on the beach by local fishermen and Mumbai Police.

He was immediately taken to a nearby civic hospital, where doctors declared him dead. Officials once again cautioned that the Arabian Sea remains rough during the monsoon, and people are repeatedly advised against entering the water for swimming or fishing.
