Mumbai: The Vasai Virar Municipal Corporation has intensified its crackdown on unqualified medical practitioners operating across the city. In a recent development, the municipal medical health department took action against a bogus doctor running an illegal clinic in the Nalasopara area.
The accused, identified as Mohammad Naseem Khan, was operating a clinic under the name “Tasneem Health Care” in the Santosh Bhavan area of Nalasopara East. According to officials, he was caught red-handed while treating patients using allopathic medicine without proper qualifications or a license. Khan reportedly holds a B.E.M.S. degree but was practicing allopathic medicine illegally, as reported by Loksatta.
A significant quantity of allopathic medicines, injections, and medical instruments was seized during the raid. Following this, Dr. Shaheen Sheikh from the Bilalpada Primary Health Center lodged a formal complaint, and a case was registered at the Tulinj police station under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.
According to the report, the Chief Medical Officer Dr. Bhakti Chaudhary stated that the municipal health department has so far taken action against 31 such bogus doctors in the Vasai-Virar region. She emphasised that the campaign will continue in the coming weeks. The municipal body has urged citizens to only consult registered and certified medical professionals and to report any suspicious medical practices to the authorities immediately.
In a separate incident related to the fake doctors crackdown, two men Shrikrishna Kumavat and Devendra Pujari have been booked by Vithalwadi police for allegedly practicing medicine without a valid license in Manere village, Kalyan.
The action came after the Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) launched a special drive against bogus doctors operating within its jurisdiction. Acting on a complaint, the KDMC health department inspected the Shri Sai Clinic in Manere and found that both Kumavat and Pujari were treating patients illegally.
KDMC officials confirmed that Kumavat had no medical license, while Pujari only held a degree in electro-homeopathy, which is not recognized for practicing modern medicine. An FIR has been registered, and further investigation is underway.
