Navi Mumbai: Ongoing road excavation work in Sector 26, Parsik Hill, has allegedly led to significant damage to water pipelines, sparking concerns over water wastage and highlighting poor coordination within the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC).
In several locations, underground water pipelines have been damaged during the digging, resulting in continuous leakage. This has caused distress among local residents, who are questioning the civic body’s preparedness and the apparent lack of planning to safeguard existing infrastructure. Many argue that such damage not only disrupts basic services but also results in the irresponsible loss of a vital resource.
Residents have also criticized the timing and necessity of the excavation. "The road being dug up was constructed just last year, and at that time, it had been suggested that provision be made for laying underground cables to prevent future disruptions. However, these recommendations were reportedly ignored, leading to the current situation where the road has to be opened up again—this time causing collateral damage to the water supply lines," said a resident.
The issue has been compounded by the fact that only a month ago, the Water Supply Department had carried out excavation in the same area to install recycled water pipelines. "If a spare conduit had been included then for future cable work, this second round of digging—and the resulting pipeline damage—could have been avoided altogether," pointed out another resident from the area.
This sequence of events has raised serious questions about coordination between departments and the overall approach to infrastructure planning in the city. There is growing pressure on the authorities to repair the leakage immediately and hold the responsible parties accountable.

As water continues to leak from damaged pipelines on Parsik Hill, residents hope that this episode will serve as a wake-up call for the NMMC. The expectation is for better foresight, responsible civic planning, and above all, the protection of essential services from the consequences of administrative oversight.
