Mumbai: In a crackdown on unauthorised constructions in Malad’s Madh area, the BMC has issued a show cause notice to Bollywood actor and BJP leader Mithun Chakraborty for allegedly building an illegal ground-floor structure on a plot in Erangle village.

The notice directs him to justify the alterations, failing which the structure will be demolished at his own risk, with the civic body also warning of possible prosecution.

The BMC has identified around 101 unauthorised constructions in Madh, including bungalows built on forged plans. The civic body aims to demolish all illegal structures by the end of May.

"During inspections near Hira devi Mandir in Erangle village, two one-plus-mezzanine-storey buildings, one ground-floor structure, and three temporary units made from bricks, wood, glass, and AC sheets. These structures have been built on the area without taking permission from the competent authority, for which a show cause notice has been issued to the actor," said civic sources.

A show cause notice has been issued under Section 351(1A) of the Mumbai Municipal Corporation Act. The actor has been asked to respond within seven days of the notice dated May 10, explaining why the “said building or work should not be removed, altered, pulled down, or why the use of the premises should not be restored.”

Under Section 475A of the MMC Act, such violations attract penalties and imprisonment, said an official. When contacted, Chakraborty said, "I have no unauthorised structures. Notices have been sent to many, and we are sending our replies."
