Navi Mumbai: Two men posing as employees of the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) allegedly extorted Rs 1 lakh from a Sanpada flat owner after threatening to seal his property. The suspects fled after collecting the money through a QR code payment, and police have launched a manhunt to trace them.
Incident at Sanpada Housing Society
The incident occurred at Sea Queen Heritage Co-operative Housing Society in Sector 18, Sanpada. According to police, the victim, was renovating his flat when the accused—one identifying himself as Tawde and his driver—arrived, claiming to be from the NMMC.
Threat Over Renovation Work
The duo told Satam that a complaint had been lodged against the renovation and threatened official action. They allegedly demanded Rs 1 lakh to avoid sealing the flat, receiving the amount directly into their account via an online transfer.

Complaint Filed After Realisation
Following discussions with friends and family, Satam lodged a complaint with Sanpada Police. "A case has been registered against the two impostors, and efforts to trace them are underway," a police from Sanpada police station said.
