Mumbai: Just a day before Independence Day celebrations, panic gripped Mumbai on Thursday evening after the police control room received a threat call about a bomb blast in a train.

According to police officials, an unidentified caller phoned the Mumbai Police Control Room around 6:30 PM and claimed that a major explosion would take place on a train. Before the police could seek further details, the caller abruptly disconnected the line.

When officers attempted to call back on the same number, the phone was found switched off. Following the threat, Mumbai Police immediately alerted the Railway Police and launched an extensive search at railway stations and trains, but no suspicious object or activity was detected.

Senior police officers confirmed that nothing suspicious was found and preliminary assessment indicated it was a hoax call. “Mumbai Police is on alert, but there is no cause for panic. We are tracing the identity of the caller and further investigation is underway,” an official said. Security has been heightened across the city’s railway network as a precaution, with additional personnel deployed at major stations ahead of Independence Day
